The Cardiovascular Research Sciences Centre (CVSRC) is focused on translating advances in biomedical research in Cardiovascular Disease (coronary heart disease, stroke, and diseases of the vasculature), into benefit for patients. We aim at driving innovation in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and translate our research findings into benefits for people in the UK and worldwide.
Our commitment is to create an environment where clinicians and scientists integrate molecular biology, immunology, inflammation and ion channel research, genetics, imaging and biomarker research, clinical epidemiology and large scale trials. This structure is thus able to translate important basic science concepts into clinically relevant diagnostic algorithms and therapeutic interventions.
We have developed an internationally competitive research portfolio on vascular degenerative diseases and their consequences and created a solid infrastructure to carry out high quality basic science research and translate these findings into clinical research projects that have substantial impact on patient management and disease prevention. We have created a unique Cardiovascular research environment that provides the basic science research platform, which, with NIHR investment, will help us achieve the necessary critical mass to drive our translational portfolio. We have established state of the art core facilities including; genomics, proteomics, biological services, vascular laboratories, flow cytometry, immunology labs, animal research facilities, small animal imaging facilities, high quality imaging facilities (MRI, CT and echo). We have also established powerful research networks both nationally and internationally, including those with industry.
