Biography

Dr Rajan Sharma was recently appointed consultant cardiologist and director of echocardiography at St Georges Hospital. He is also an honorary senior lecturer at St George’s University of London Medical School.

Dr Sharma is a nationally recognized expert in cardiac imaging with many national and international peer reviewed publications. His principle areas of interest include the impact of renal disease on cardiovascular disease, prognostic importance of stress echocardiography in specific population groups, three dimensional echocardiography in valvular heart disease, myocardial deformation imaging in various cardiac diseases.

Current research includes the impact of stress echocardiography on autonomic function, echocardiography defined right ventricular adaption to exercise and sudden arrhythmic death syndrome, cardiac structural changes in end stage renal disease.

Dr Sharma is a member of the British Society Echocardiography and European Society Echocardiography. He is co director of three nationally recognized echocardiography courses.

He maintains an active interest in medical education and has 10 years of experience of teaching for the MRCP exam. He is one of the lead cardiac authors for the Royal College of Physicians Medical Masterclass series and has published several educational books in medicine and cardiology.
